The Oderings School Gardens Show is presented by the Canterbury Horticultural Society. The theme for the 4th show was “Into the Future” and it was amazing to see how many different interpretations of the theme there were. The standard of the 11 garden exhibits from the participating schools was extremely high and the judges were amazed at their quality. Lead judge was Sandi MacRae from MacRae Landscapes, Pamela Smith, Marketing manager for Oderings and Diane Turner, writer for Kiwi Gardener’s junior section.

A special congratulations to Riccarton Primary School who won Gold and the School’s Choice Award and to Te Kura o te Mātāpuna arā Isleworth School, who won the People’s Choice Award. The plant quality in both exhibits was excellent. The judges loved the creativity of ‘plants as space creatures’ in Isleworth’s “Space Oddity”. Riccarton’s garden called, “What future do you Choose?” considered two very different outcomes for our earth. Their interactive component really appealed to the children, as did the engaging and beautifully made insects and birds.

Everyone loved Linwood Avenue School’s aliens; their exhibition garden, “Alienopoly” considered a future where the earth is taken over by aliens.
