Description

Cultivate, Exchange & Thrive

Explore the abundance of compact edible gardens

Each month Canterbury Horticultural Society present an edible-themed demonstration followed by a chance to exchange and collaborate with other balcony dwellers. At each session attendees can purchase a set of top-up plants/seeds – a seasonal combination of seedlings and/or seeds from the Southern Seed Exchange, or swap excess plants and seeds with others. Bring back your old pots or soil to be recycled by the urban farm.

Monthly on third Saturday of the Month at Ōtakaro Orchard 10am – 12pm

18 MAY & 15 JUNE

Combat Winter blues with micro greens. Opt for sprouts for quick health boosts. Learn to grow perpetual spinach, celery, radish, spring onions, kale and other low-growing chards, along with herbs, as we transition into the Winter herb season.

20 JULY & 17 AUGUST

As Spring approaches we will cultivate robust basil varieties, fresh spinach, and possibly carrots (if space permits). It will be time to introduce the occasional tomato and pepper for a diverse and vibrant garden.

21 SEPTEMBER & 19 OCTOBER

Prepare for pre-spring planting by considering a variety of crops, including tomatoes, beans, peppers, radishes, beetroots, side-shooting broccoli, eggplants, radicchio, and more. Get ready for a diverse and thriving garden!
